River District Community Center
Vancouver, BCAn Interactive Exhibit Space & Community Center
ParkLane Homes’ River District Community Center’s children’s experience area was conceived by designer Braun Allison, as an open, accessible community space, intended to be used freely by area locals. Its interpretive exhibit space is an informationally rich, engaging children’s curiousity. In this whimsical, interactive “fun museum”, the focus is on the indigenous wildlife and vegetation of the riverside community. In “Songbird City”, kids push buttons to hear the songs of birds native to the area. In another interactive exhibit, they’re challenged to guess animal footprints on a display’s doors, then open the doors to find out which animal made the prints. Kids learn about the area’s natural history and life on the river by being immersed in its fascinating details, through “learning play”. Around the corner, visitors can learn about the area on a more adult level, with an historical exhibit that spans boom times, bust times and labour history of this historic timber mill town.
