MULTIPLEX PORTALS MAKE A DRAMATIC DIFFERENCE FOR HARKINS THEATRES: Harkins Theatres, the fastest-growing theater chain in the Southwestern US, had 3DS reinvent the portals into their auditoriums. This was a tall order, involving an exotic, fanciful design, a wayfinding signage component, multiple configurations and an efficient large-scale theming and production plan.
Movie theatre interiors bring special considerations. Theatregoers were to step through these entrances into the dazzling world of entertainment, so everything had to be on a par with the rest of that experience. 3DS started with a concept interior design that could be described as, “Flash Gordon meets Arabian Nights” and developed our fabrication procedure around the design’s requirements. We used vacuum-formed high-impact plastic and metallic automotive paint finishes, for an incredibly durable yet decorative doorway fixture that withstands even the most unruly family’s night out at the movies. 3DS produced portals for Harkins’ 18-screen multiplex theatres, all over the region.
